Inspired By White

If my husband wasn't adamantly against it, I would have every room in our house painted white.  I love the clean, airy look of all white rooms; I even have a 'White Walls' board on Pinterest.   But I know the reality of actually maintaining an all white area is probably harder than I think. Especially white furniture; although I LOVE how white furniture looks, I could never actually buy it.

Andy was super generous and let me paint all the main walls in our kitchen, living and dining area white (it's all one room since it's an open concept); but we painted all the shiplap walls gray for some color and contrast.  You can see a bit of the progress here

The problem with painting walls white is there are a million different shades of white.  I'm serious...choosing the right white was super stressful.  I didn't want our house to look like a stark, cold hospital room.  I wanted it to look warm, but not yellow or dingy.  I googled "choosing white paint" and of course the perfect white paint color is completely partial to the preference of each individual.

After driving myself crazy going through dozens of white paint chips and researching, I finally just went with the suggestion of my contractor...Swiss Coffee from Kelly Moore.  It's a really popular trim color, so I was concerned about it being too bright...but I really, really love how it's looking so far.  Once we've finished the final coats of paint I'll be sure to post pictures!

Do you have white walls or do you crave color?  If you do have white walls, are they hard to keep clean?

  2. I've blogged about this. How white walls make for gorgeous photos, but my house is almost all color. You will have some great photo opportunities in this house.

  3. I love the white walls but I definitely think it's hard to keep up everything white! I don't have kids but throughout the years growing up with my siblings, the walls definitely took some beatings from crayons, dirty hands and feet etc... Haha.

  4. I LOVE that you posted this today! I was just telling Brad this weekend that after years of trying to decide on a new bedroom wall color, we should probably just paint it white. I want the room to be light and airy, but also comfortable.

I'm totally loving the white wall look lately!

  5. Love all of these, especially the middle one! I love textured tiles or wood planks on the ceiling.

  6. The only reason I don't like white walls is because of living in apartments for years where the only color we had was white. They do look gorgeous with the right decor though.

  8. I keep telling my husband that we should paint every room in our house white, and he keeps acting like I'm crazy. I think it's so bright and cheerful. Especially here in Washington!

  10. It's funny, in my old house I was so into color. Color on all of the walls, poppy art, etc. Now in the new house I am all about all of the white. So to your pinterest boards I go. I love those pictures with the white painted wood ceilings. We have grey washed board walls/ceilings in our A frame and I want all of the walls to be the crispest white.
