Mid Century Modern Dream Kitchen

Whenever I'd scour Pinterest for kitchen ideas, I found I was always drawn to similar schemes.  White walls, white countertops, and dark brown cabinets.

Because we're doing such a big remodel, we had to cut costs as best we could. After a ton of research, I decided on cabinets from Ikea that are a black/brown color.  For some reason finding flat front cabinets instead of shaker style cabinets for a good price was impossible.  It's beyond me why a flat piece of wood would cost more than the detail of shaker cabinets...but what do I know.

We also decided on no upper cabinets.  The layout of the kitchen just didn't really allow for uppers, and after seeing kitchens with no uppers, I decided I really liked the look. I just seems more open and airy.  I hope I don't regret that decision!

Have you been in kitchens without upper cabinets?  Do you think you could live without them? Also, anyone else have Ikea cabinets?  I'd love your feedback!

  4. I think as long as you have enough storage space, uppers aren't a necessity. Maybe floating shelves for some of your glassware/ceramics? I think YoungHouseLove did that and it looks great.

  5. Our current house no uppers. Look, it's ok but from a storage perspective hard. I do like the idea of exposed shelves tho. That's something else to think of

  7. All of these kitchens are beautiful. We need a ton of storage so I don't think I could live without upper cabinets.

  8. We couldn't live without uppers just because we seriously need that space for storage. If you have enough room below I think it's a great look and you could include some open shelving which is a great look too. We have 3 rows of open shelves that we love.
