This photo was not taken in black and white. This was taken at high noon at the park yesterday where I was out tossing the ball with Augustus. I know the rest of the US is baking in 100 degree weather and can't wait for the fall, but the Pacific Northwest is still hovering in the high 60's, low 70's with cloud cover. I see stores advertising their fall clothing lines and I'm screaming noooooooooooooooo!! I'm still wearing my fall sweaters from last season!!
I know, I shouldn't be complaining. I chose to live here. And I have to admit, when the sun does come out, it is spectacularly gorgeous and I don't want to be anywhere else. But those days have been so few and far between this summer and tomorrow is the first day of August! Maybe it's because my husband is away for the week or maybe I'm just being hormonal and moody. But please sweet sunshine, break through those clouds and warm my soul.

The Easiest DIY Room Update Ever
I picked up a bunch of cardboard letters at JoAnns awhile back that have been sitting in a closet waiting to be spray painted. I finally got to it over the weekend. This is truly one of the simplest DIY projects ever; and you can update any room with a word, a name, or a single letter (you can find all different sizes of cardboard letters at your local craft store).
Here is the before pic.

A New Friday Series--I Want to Know You More!
Something I really love is connecting with other blog authors and becoming "friends" via the blogesphere. (Of course my preference would be that we were all neighbors, would go out on coffee dates, have Pinterest parties and have 'real life' friendships...but until then, the online connection will have to do). I was inspired by a photo series that went viral on Instagram called "5 things," where you listed 5 random facts about yourself. I found out such interest things about those of you I follow on Instagram and I thought, "what a great way to get to know each other better." So I wanted to switch out my Friday Favesies series to every other week with a new series to help us blogger gals connect with other bloggers who might want to expand their blog friendships, grow their readership, and find some other blogs that they connect with.
So here's how it works: In the comment section, list a few random facts about you and/or your blog...a short intro so others can scan and see what you're about--Include any social media links you'd like. That's it, now scroll through the comments and go check out some new blogs!
Here is my example of what your comment should look like:
-September will mark my 3 year anniversary of this blog...I can't believe it!
-This blog has evolved from wedding planning, to our travels, to home buying, DIYing, recipes, thrifting, pregnancy and soon to be motherhood...I'd love to follow/connect with other blogs in a similar stage of life!
-I don't own a TV and haven't for years. Is that weird?
-I usually smile with my mouth wide open (ie, pic above).

Thrifting Thursdays...Sort Of
One of my husbands clients works for the company Zulily, a daily deals sight for women and mom's. When I met her a couple of months ago she invited me to their upcoming sample sale (which was yesterday) for friends and family. I drove up to Seattle with anticipation not knowing what kind of goodies I would find. There was a huge line of women waiting with multiple tote bags to score bargains...I knew mass chaos was about to ensue. It reminded me of people awaiting the after Thanksgiving sale for Christmas bargains, except it's summer, it was insanely hot in the building, everything was in boxes on the floor, and being 34 weeks pregnant it was difficult to sort through things hunched over, much less scoot by the masses of women scavenging through boxes.
Everything they were selling was brand new, but for the most part it was children's clothing and women's apparel. (Which I didn't buy any of). But here's what I did come home with.
4 nursing bras and 1 organic cotton crib sheet. These items were the only things on my list that I was actually hoping to find that I found! Each item was $1...so $5 for those 5 items made the trip worth it.
1. Baby mobile $2
2. Car seat head rest $1
3. Cutie Pie coat hanger and night light $1 each
4. Canvas pictures $2 each. (I didn't really love the pics, but I figured I could paint over the canvas!
5. 2 Books $1 each
6. Brass jewelry holder $2
7. 2 beach towels $1 each (totally random I know).
So although I didn't pick these items up at a thrift store per say, I spent $20 for a loot of brand new items which is even better right? If you haven't checked out Zulily, I highly recommend it!
Also, I love seeing your thrifting finds, so I'm starting a Thrifting Thursdays Linky, inspired by Mandy at Harper's Happenings, which should go up about every other week! Please just link back to me or grab a button and check out a few other bloggers!

34 Weeks
Top: Cabi // Maternity Jeans: Mavi (given to me by a friend)
Today is actually a gorgeous day in the PNW...ironically 2 days ago I was wearing flannel and freezing. I think (pray, hope) that it's actually summer now as I'm really tired of being cold. People look at me sympathetically and say, "Oh honey, I'm so sorry you're going to have to go through the summer like that." I say bring on the heat! This mama likes her sunshine.
I just had my 34 week check up and my midwife said everything is looking perfect. (yay!). I met with another pediatrician this week and I think I've made my decision. (check!). The only update on the nursery is I've washed all Parker Penny's clothes and organized them in drawers...other than that it's still a disaster. I had a couple of girlfriends come over and help me sort the overwhelming pile of onesies and jammies.
I still can't believe how tiny those newborn onesies are. I pray my child is normal sized and fits in those things and is not the gigantic 10 pounder I was. (oh please, please God).
I finally figured out that my baby girl wasn't punching me like a punching bag, she's been having hiccups for a few weeks which explains the constant heartbeat like feeling I've had pretty frequently at night. (cute right?).
Getting in and out of bed is proving to be more and more challenging, especially with the frequent trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. OTC Prilosec has saved me. Seriously, my heartburn was unbearable and this stuff is sooooo much better than Tums (which I'm super thankful for because I have an appetite like no other right now). Yep, I'm gaining a good amount of weight. Nope, I don't care; pass the pie please, and yes, I'll take whipped cream with that.

Stepping Up
{The man of my dreams}
I'm a do-er, with slight control freak tendencies, but my body is forcing me to S-L-O-W down and there is nothing I can do about it. The laundry and dishes pile up a little more than usual, my portion of the to-do list remains unchecked, he's dealing quite well with my hormonal melt-downs (seriously, how many days in a row can I cry for no reason?), and his sincere affirmation for my ginormous body help keep my self esteem in check.
I hope our baby girl feels just as lucky one day to have him as a father as I do having him as a husband.

A Perfect Weekend of Nothing
This was the first weekend in a long time that both Andy and I didn't have a laundry list of things to do. Yes, there is still a lot to do before baby comes, but our weekends are usually jam packed with obligations/work/events leaving us with little free time to actually relax (much less spend time together). I actually took a nap this weekend...I can't even remember the last time I napped. I think my body is forcing me to slow down which is probably a very good thing.
This weekend was about Andy and Augustus. It was perfect. We found a grill at a garage sale for $20 and we've been eating cheeseburgers like crazy.
And the best moment of the weekend? Sleeping in Sunday morning and waking up to breakfast in bed. Oh how I love my husband.
I'm going to savor it...I know very, very soon I'll have a crying infant in my arms and mornings of sleeping in are long gone. How was your weekend?

Friday Favesies Edition 6
This is my fave pic I snapped this week of my two loves. Andy was out BBQing on the grill we found for $20 at a garage sale! Yep, gotta love a great deal!
This week I read some really great stuff; if you have time this weekend, I really recommend reading these articles, starting with this one: why you should speak well of your spouse.
Another article I found highly interesting was from the New York Times about how hard it is to make friends after 30. It made me realize I'm normal, and that finding really deep connections at this age is just harder because of where we are in life. Have you found it difficult to make friends later in life?
Could you moms chime in on this blog post? I know every baby is different as far as likes and dislikes of products, but I need to start shopping for stuff ASAP, and I find lists like this super duper helpful. Do you moms out there agree? Disagree? Or have something you'd highly recommend on top of this list?
And if you missed my blog post this week on how to earn extra cash each month, you should check it out!

33 Weeks
Dress: Shabby Apple
I won't bore you with the details, lets just say I'm uncomfortable. As for Parker Penny, I think she's having a blast rolling around, doing cardio and choreographing a dance routine. It's still a bit strange to just watch my belly move and poke so much.
This girl is growing! She's about 17 inches, the size of a pineapple and 4.25 pounds. I still can't believe in 7 short weeks there will be a real, live human being in my arms that will depend on me for the next 18 years. It's still hard to imagine how much life will change.
I'm meeting with a couple of pediatricians this week and trying to figure out all the loose ends like paperwork for maternity leave. There is just so much stuff to do and not enough hours in the day to do it! I guess this is preparation for motherhood right?

DIY Faux Capiz Shell Chandelier
Do you remember the very first thing you pinned on Pinterest? I do, it was a DIY faux capiz shell chandelier. I LOVE capiz shell, but generally chandeliers are hundreds and upwards of thousands of dollars.
How much wax paper you need depends on how large you make the chandelier--I went through 3 boxes. Tear off 3 pieces of wax paper and iron them in between 2 pieces of parchment paper.
There are multiple options you can choose from to hang your strands. I found a lamp shade at a thrift store for .98. After taking off the material, I simply added a middle layer by wrapping wire around the center of the lamp shade and spray painted it white. (not shown). I've also seen this done with hanging planter baskets like this one:
Now for the time consuming part. Cutting out circles. You can do it the hard way like I did and choose to cut out each individual circle. I think I cut out over 1000. How many circles you cut really depends on how long you want each layer and how big the frame is. It also depends on how full you want the chandelier to be. You can double up each strand (like I did to create fullness) or you can tie on each strand individually for a less full effect. (You will also need to cut out way less circles if you choose to tie each strand). Generally circles are cut anywhere between 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches. I would highly recommend finding a circle punch, layering a few stacks of the wax paper, and then punching out multiple circles at once. (You must layer a few stacks of the ironed wax paper, otherwise your circles won't come out cleanly punched). If you do choose to do it the long way like I did, with a circle cutter...prepare yourself for carpel tunnel. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
If you can't sew, find a wonderful friend who can. That friend for me was Lindsy. I owe her big time. Thanks Lindsy!
Then start hanging your strands over so each strand is doubled up. Or tie your individual strands to the rim.
Now hanging the light and adding the light fixture was my husbands job. I've seen these chandeliers hung a few different ways. It's easiest if you're just replacing an existing light fixture, because then you can just add hooks to the ceiling and you don't need to mess with a swag light kit. Here you can find how to hang one directly over an existing light. Unfortunately, I did not have an existing light fixture where I wanted to hang my chandelier, so my husband had to put together the swag light kit and we added chain to the top of the chandelier to hang it on a hook from the ceiling.
I absolutely love how it turned out, and the total cost was less than $20 for all the materials. I was so inspired after the chandelier was hung, I finally put up some wall art that had been sitting in my closet for months.
{A real capiz shell chandelier}
When I came across tutorials on Pinterest, I told my husband I was going to make one. That was almost a year ago. Although this project is not difficult, it's incredibly time consuming, and half way through I wanted to chuck the whole idea and just buy one. But I didn't, and the final result makes me super duper happy. There are multiple options you can choose from to hang your strands. I found a lamp shade at a thrift store for .98. 3 Ways to Earn Extra Income with Minimal Effort
I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I've been in sales every since I was a girl scout knocking on doors selling cookies--and I married someone with the same mindset. Andy and I have always thought outside the box when it comes to making money and I thought I'd share some fairly simple money making ideas that require little effort on your part and can yield quite a bit of extra cash.
{Our guest room}
A common question people ask me is, "Do you feel weird having strangers in your home?" The answer is simply, "no." 99% of the time a guest who books a room is looking for a place to store their stuff, sleep, and shower. Most of the guests are rarely at the house just lounging around. With the exception of meeting them on arrival, I rarely have further interaction with the guest unless they stay for longer than a few days. I've had over 20 different people stay at my house in the last 6 months and I've never had a bad experience. It's also a great alternative for you if you're traveling anywhere; you should check out what you can get instead of booking the typical hotel room.
{Our first foreign exchange student, Mina, from Japan}
3. Buy a multi-family home or a home with a rent-able space.
{Our home, the duplex}
We've had a few months where our mortgage was completely paid by a combination of our tenants rent, plus what we earned from hosting an exchange student or having airbnb guests. I'd love to answer any questions you may have about our experience...just post in the comments or feel free to email me at discoverystreetblog@gmail.com
*This post was not sponsored by airbnb, we just love it and wanted to share about our experience!

Nesting // Empty Frame Wall
This weekend was about getting stuff done. My nesting instincts are in full force and I was able to check so much off my "to do before baby" list. Remember my post about all the cool frames I thrifted? I was debating on where to put them, and after I finally finished making a chandelier (a DIY project I'll share later this week--a project that took me ages to finish), I decided on the perfect location for the frames.
I think they add so much character to the living room and looks great above my thrifted vintage couch!

Friday Favesies Edition 5
Does anyone else hate throwing out their spaghetti sauce jars? I hate throwing away glass jars; I always do it reluctantly because I think to myself, "I know I could possibly use this for something in the future." Well, thanks to Pinterest I've got some ideas.
Last but not least, I have to share this video of Gus, because he of course is my absolute favesies. It's been crazy warm here in the Pacific Northwest; you know like 80 degrees (massive heat wave folks), and poor Gus gets super hot in minutes. Andy and I were walking home after tossing the ball with him at the park, and as we walked by a sprinkler, he decided that was a good place to rest for awhile.

I can put my hot coco into a pretty jar instead of keeping it in it's ugly Nestle container on top of my fridge! Yay for cute!
On to my favesies blog of the week...it's an oldie but goodie. I've been following Mandy, author of Harper's Happenings for awhile now.
She is mama to the cutest, spunkiest daughter Harper. (I want my daughter to look the 1/4 asian version of her). I met Mandy once, in passing, as her and her husband were going into a restaurant I was leaving. I feel like I know her since she is friends with a few of my friends, and I stalk her on both her blog and Instagram. She truly writes posts that make me laugh so hard I might pee a little. For example. AmIright?

32 Weeks
Dress: Old Navy // Cardigan: H&M // Shoes: Target
This last week has been super busy and I think my body is finally starting to resist me. I'm definitely starting to feel the strain this baby is putting on my body and it's definitely slowing me down. I don't recognize my feet anymore; every night I look at my feet and think I haven't even been on them that much but they are so swollen. To all the ladies who have jobs which require them to be on their feet at this stage of their pregnancy, wow, I give you major props.
The carpel tunnel in my right hand is really starting to get bothersome. It feels like my right arm and hand is asleep all day and kinda arthritic as I have a hard time grasping on to anything. (Which makes all my little projects I have left to do seem impossible).
Surprisingly, I'm sleeping better. I think I'm a bit of an anomaly as I did not experience the exhaustion/tiredness most women experience during the beginning of pregnancy--In fact I couldn't sleep for the life of me! But now, my head hits the pillow and I'm out.
Little Parker Penny is doing great. She is about 16.7 inches and weighs 3.75 pounds...and according to my app is about the size of a large jicama. (Where do they get these references? I have no idea what a large jicama looks like). Her movement increases on a daily basis and I grow more and more anxious to meet this little nugget.
Other news...I decided on using a doula. After meeting with her, she was so wonderful and encouraging, I new I wanted here there with me and Andy during labor.
I also think I have truly let go of worrying about weight gain. I'm embracing my round face and body, my outie bellybutton, and the other weirdness that happens to your body when you grow a human being. That being said, I'm most likely enjoying ice cream as you read this right now.

Why I'm Choosing an Epidural
"Are you going to go natural?" That seemed to be the first question everyone asked me when I announced my pregnancy. I guess there has been a resurgence of home births (especially here in the PNW) and those who have chosen that route are fierce advocates of it. Many told me to watch "The business of being born." I watched it, and seriously considered a natural birth after learning more about the birth process; but I know me, and even though a woman's body is designed for birth, there is just no part of me that wants to feel that entire process. I've felt "less than," after telling people I'm choosing an epidural, but the reality is every single woman has reasons for choosing how they bring their child into the world. And although it's not necessary for me to explain why, I'm going to anyway.
1. My mother is 4'11" and 95 pounds wet. I was a 10 pound baby (delivered via c-section after getting stuck). I'm 5'8" and weigh significantly more than my mother...the likelihood of me having a ginormous baby is pretty high. My midwife confirmed my fear...her exact quote was, "you're probably going to have a gigantic baby." Yes, she said that, what the?
2. I'm going to be 34 years old when I have this child...I'm no spring chicken.
3. I have some medical issues, and although they have not affected my pregnancy, I still have a fear of complications and want to deliver in a hospital.
4. I've never, ever, ever had the desire to be pregnant. I've always planned on adopting. It was totally random that my "clock" started ticking and I wanted to have a baby. Pregnancy is not something I've enjoyed. For the first 20 weeks I wanted to die because I was so sick. There is no part of me that looks forward to the birthing process...I very much want to skip to the part where there is a healthy baby in my arms.
5. If anyone knows me, they know I'm all about natural, homeopathic, Eastern medicine, and most things crunchy and granola. Western medicine is usually the last place I turn to. I had a debilitating medical condition in my late teen years that Western Dr.'s couldn't figure out and kept medicating. Acupuncture, a natropath, and an immense amount of prayer helped heal me. But in this (researched) circumstance, I'm delivering with a midwife, a doula, and I'm choosing an epidural and a hospital bed to help me through the process of labor.
I have an enormous amount of respect for women who choose a natural birth, but I don't think choosing an epidural makes a woman less worthy of the title "mother." In the end we all want the same thing; a healthy baby in our arms to love, regardless of how it got there.

Semi DIY Wall Spice Rack
My pantry has been a disorganized disaster, partly due to my spices taking up a ton of room in my pantry. For months I scoured thrift stores for a vintage wall spice rack. I couldn't believe I couldn't find one, so I finally just ordered one from Etsy for $15 and painted it once it arrived. (And of course the very next week I saw one. Argh). I purchased jars from World Market for .99 each and made simple labels for the lids.
This freed up so much space in my pantry and I think spruced up my kitchen with some pretty wall decor. How do you store your spices?

Showered With Love:: My Baby Shower
My invites were done by a friend of a friend who has an eco-friendly paper goods shop, green FINGERPRINT. She blogged about working on my invitations here. I LOVE how they turned out!
My wonderful friend Sarah hosted the shower (that's her on the right in the striped tank). She did such an amazing job putting it together and adding really special touches.
One of my favorite things she did was created a "Penny" jar with notes of well wishes and prayers. When I read through the sweet words everyone wrote to my little girl I couldn't help but shed tears of joy at the outpouring of love. And the gifts. You guys. Come on. In addition to the fab loot, there were so many hand made gifts that I just truly, truly hold near and dear to my heart. One of my favorites was a 12 month onesie set made by my friend Rachelle.
I do have to give props to my friend Caroline (top right in the collage)...she actually did fly out from San Diego. *tear* So many beautiful friends. I just love you all.
Touched. Humbled. Grateful. I'll never forget this day of love!

Friday Favesies Week 4 + Avocado Love
I used to hate avocados (can you believe it?). Then one day on a trip to Puerto Vallarta I fell in love with guacamole, out of the blue, and my whole life changed. Lately, I've been obsessed with all things avocado. I just came across this post from A Beautiful Mess that had a few awesome avocado recipes.
How about some baked avocado fries? Anyone?
A new avocado breakfast. YUM.
On to other favorites...I actually didn't take many pictures this week (which is totally weird and not like me). But my favorite Instagram pic of the week was this one:
This was honestly my favorite part of the 4th of July. Andy and I were headed to the dog park with Augustus--we didn't even stay up to see the fireworks! We just enjoyed a gorgeous sunny day as a family, and it was glorious.
My favorite blog of the week? Go say hi to Lindsay at Hello Hue. Her blog is full of life, art, design, and currently about adjusting to moving to Florida from Hawaii (her husband's in the military) and being 35 weeks pregnant. It's been fun watching her pregnancy progress as she is a few weeks ahead of me. She also is just as cute as can be.
