Puffy and Frustrated

I feel like the Pillsbury doughboy.  The pregnancy induced carpel tunnel, swelling, mixed with 93 degree heat this weekend made for a bad combo.
Normally, I'm not one to complain about the heat...I love the heat, my body however, is rejecting it by swelling into balloon like proportions.  My hands and forearms are completely numb and I've lost ability to grasp anything.  This makes everything difficult; driving, typing, holding a fork, etc.  Andy made me an ice bath for my hands, but I couldn't do it...the cold made me cry.  I tried an epsom salt bath because I heard it was good for swelling and circulation...but so far no luck.  I went to the chiropractor last week, but nothing seems to help alleviate the situation.

Have any of you dear readers gone through this?  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Please know I'm reading your blogs...I just may refrain from commenting until I get some relief.

  2. So sorry you are feeling this way! I did have carpel tunnel during my pregnancy, not to the extent of yours, but my fingers were numb and I couldn't really pick up anything heavy with the my left hand. All the dr told me was too wear a brace and to try not to use my hands as much (i know it's very hard) It will go away afterwards, but it takes a while, it took me about 2 months before I got feeling back into my right hand. :( I also swelled, a lot! I just tried to drink a lot of water, but with the heat it didn't really help. I did a lot of stretching and made sure I wasn't sitting or standing in one place for too long, tried to stay away from salty/sugary food, took cooler showers and even drank gatorade. I know this was kinda long and probably didn't have much advice, but just know you are not alone! I just had to keep telling myself that the end result will be so worth it! Also, prenatal massages were a godsend, it at least gave me an hour to totally destress and unwind.

  3. You are still Pregnant? You poor girl. If it seems like forever to me then I cannot even imagine what you must be feeling. Having never been there myself I cannot even begin to give you advice. I hope that it gets better; hang in there for the home stretch.

  4. This dear is your first real taste of the sacrifice of motherhood...except maybe for being sick early on and not being able to take medicine! That's why I said with My first pregnancy, the ONLY thing to keep me excited was wondering if it was a boy or girl! Through the second, a nightmare of not being able to sleep or walk, my rock was my sweet daughter and her antics! Sorry you feel so terrible. It could be worse...Florida and HIGH humidity! I'm with the previous poster, try a prenatal massage. Couldn't hurt anyway! What about a swimming pool??

  17. oh, sweets. :( clearly I don't have advice, I'm taking notes from you. But the acupuncture idea sounds like a good one! Or swimming? I don't know, just submerging yourself in cool water sounds lovely. Love you.

  18. I was told by my docs a little too late that floating in a pool for an hour was like half a day's bedrest! I ended up on full bedrest and was too late for the pool party, but it's supposed to work wonders on reducing fluid buildup. Something about the pressure of the water does wonders. You should definitely give it a go!
