Someone please clue me in. I recently noticed that my bras are well, old. The underwire is starting to poke out and the materials have bunched and aren't laying flat anymore. I actually googled how often you should buy new bras and the answer was about every 6 months. What the what? Every 6 months? The last time I bought a new bra was for my honeymoon which was over 2 years ago (and I've probably only worn them once or twice because they are so uncomfortable and not designed to be worn under tshirts). Besides that, I've probably been wearing my 4 favorite bras for the past 3+ years. I was about to go and buy some new bras when I realized that I probably won't be wearing cute Victoria's Secret bra's again until I'm done nursing--or will I? I don't know?!
So in all seriousness, how long do you wear nursing bras? Should I just toss my raggedy bras and replace them with a few nursing bras? Do your boobs fluctuate greatly in size from pregnancy to post pregnancy? Do I need to buy different sizes? Can you wear nursing bras with regular outfits and a cute date night dress? When will I wear a regular bra again? Any recommendations on nursing bras and where to buy them? Heellllppp.

I will go ahead and endorse the purchase nursing bras or tanks. And yes, my boobs grew after pregnancy a little more. Maybe start with a tank or two and then think about how much you will use them? I used them pretty much for the first six months exclusively. Now I go back and forth a bit. If I know that I will need to nurse while out and about I still will put one on. I also like the non-nursing sort of soft bras from the Gap that are easy to pull down.
ReplyDeleteYou also should buy several sets of washable breast pads. I liked them much better than the disposable ones. I have a Hooter Hider (crazy name) but I never use it. I find that withe the nursing bra, v neck shirt and maybe a cardigan or blanket that people can't really see much.
Just buy some nursing bras and nursing tanks are going to be the most comfy right after your baby girl is born. By the time you're done breast feeding (or have decided that you just want some real bras again), you'll probably need/want new bras anyways. There actually are some pretty cute nursing bras out there if you look...check out Motherhood Maternity. You'll probably go up a cup size or so right away, but then once your production has leveled out, they'll probably go back to close to what you are at the end of your pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteYes to nursing bras. And if you get good ones, you can use them as real bras too. I quite pumping a few weeks back and I still wear my nursing bras.
ReplyDeletePlus, after you are done nursing/pumping, you have no idea what size your boobies (hee hee) are going to be, so don't waste money on good regular bras now.
And buy your nursing bras a cup size bigger than you are now. Your ladies will need the room after Parker gets here!
I don't know anything about pregnancy and how things change in that regard, but my instinct is that you should wait to buy new "normal" bras until after you are done breast feeding and things are back to normal. (Or just buy one to hold you over?) They do say that you're supposed to buy bras that often because our size actually can fluctuate a good bit, even if not pregnant, just over time. My bras almost all are 3 years old, but some have definitely not been worn much because they are pretty but not comfortable (or don't work under t-shirts/thin shirts), and then I have those that get worn all the time. I just had a wire pop out last night, so I might have to go buy a new one this summer (since it was one of two ones I have that work with white/light shirts). Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMy VS bras have been going strong for at least 3 years and are still in perfect shape. I don't put them in the dryer. Your boobs may change so it probably would be best to stick it out with the old bras, get nursing bras as needed then buy new ones after you finish nursing.
ReplyDeleteMy fave is the Bravado Bliss - feels much more like a "normal" bra :)
ReplyDeleteI bought nursing bras while I was pregnant and as soon as my regular bras no longer fit. After I gave birth, my boobs continued to grow, and I had to buy one or two larger ones, which I only wore for a couple of months before my boobs shrunk back down again to pregnancy size. About a month or so ago I had to buy new nursing bras because the ones I bought while I was pregnant were falling apart (my baby was 6-7 months at the time, so they lasted about a year). My girl is nine months now and I'm still wearing them. My favorites are wireless and from Motherhood Maternity (because I refuse to spend big bucks on nursing bras). Good luck!
ReplyDeletewhat the what is RIGHT oh.my.
ReplyDeletewell i'm not sure about nursing bras, but regular bras? like every 5 years for me! ahahahahahaha some I've had even longer! too funny
None of my old bras fit anymore so I've just been using my nursing bras since Abby was born. I got them at JCPenny for a pretty good deal! The nursing bras I got at Target were awful so I recommend trying JCP for nice affordable nursing bras.
