Her Name

When thinking through baby names, Andy and I could only come up with girl names we liked.  Early on in the pregnancy Andy starting calling little nugget by the girl name we had picked out.  We were both getting attached to the name and I told him we needed to stop in case it was a boy.  Ironically the name we chose is a unisex name, and more popular for boys, but I only wanted the name for a little girl.  Her first name is my Dad's middle name, and her middle name was my mom's American nick name when she lived in Korea.  Needless to say, we were stoked to find out little nugget was a girl so we could keep calling her by the chosen name!  Ready?
Was it difficult to chose your children's names?  Are they named after anyone?

  1. Keenan has been Keenan since I was about six months pregnant with him. We started out with Isaiah Sean and then decided that might be a bit much, so then we thought about Keen. That didn't quite fit either, and then I found Keenan on the internet one day while I was searching baby names. We chose Michael as his middle name because both my father and brother are Michaels and his dad's middle name is also Michael {three birds with one stone}.

I love your choice - but that doesn't matter :-) What matters is that you and Andy love it :-)

I'm so glad I found you today. I was reading your about me section and realized you were also in Washington (I'm in SW Washington). My brother is a youth pastor/worship leader up in Tacoma, and we visit him quite a bit!

  12. Love the name. My favorite cousin is named Penny Jo. When I picked out Andy's name (boy) I wanted to make sure it sounded good no matter what age he was. I always laughed when I think of names in the early 1900's. Can't imagine calling a cute little baby "Ralph" or "Bertha"

  14. Bettina is name afte my mom betty out of a danielle steele book i was reading in 1982, she had the given name bettina but everyone called her betty. Lokelani (roses from heaven) her great grandma (tutu rose)Leihulu (princess or feathers of royalty fit for a queen) mei (may is a fifth generation middle name) So, deep breath in Bettinal Lokelanileihulu mei baker- Manibusan.
Jason Kahealani (called of heaven) Jr is named after his daddy
Jake is another story. I had an ultra sound early and they thought he was a she, we named her Stephanie Kara Lynn. Joey even wrote a Song entitled Stephanie, still on a DVD somewhere.
when HE was born we were surprised. His given name is Robert also Joeys first name. but we were stuck for a middle name (joey didnt want a junior) Jason named him Jacob because it sounded the most like jason to him. I said sure. Joseph is actuall joeys middle name and he has always gone by that so we did the same with jacob.
As for Parker, poor thing will be called parker fly by joey his favorite guitar. Love the middle name penny being your mamas nick name. so sweet. We didnt know Andys middle name was Parker. sweet.

  15. I went to an all girls Catholic high school when I was a freshman. At one of our very first assemblies the cheerleaders came out to perform & I saw on the arm of one of the girls sweaters that her name was "Anndee". Right then and there I decided if I ever had little girl that I would name her Anndee. Many many years later when I finally had my little girl I decided to name her Andrea Michelle and call her Anndee. But then when she went to Kindergarten the teacher asked her if she wanted to be called Andrea or Anndee and my daughter said "Andrea." :( I don't know why but that is the name that she chose for herself and from then on we called her Andrea. The only one who still calls her Anndee is my mom :D. When I got my first real job I became good friends with one of my coworkers. She had an adorable little boy named Grant & I really liked that name. Later when I got married we moved out of state and I lost touch with my friend but 12 years later when I finally had my little boy we named him Grant Nicholas.

  16. Thanks for sharing! I love her name and I love the meaning behind it. I wish my kids names had more family sentiment to them. I guess we didn't try very hard! And I find it difficult naming children. Especially because I expect it to just come to me. Both times, boy names have been really hard. We didn't find out the sex with either pregnancy, so we picked both boy and girl names. With Connor, we actually had Liam picked out for most my pregnancy. Then Ian decided one day it was too close to his name. So the search continued. We wanted something Scottish, since that is where Connor was born. Connor is Scottish. We had actually narrowed it down to Connor or Knox for a boy and decided on Connor when he was born. As for Isla, that is a Scottish name as well. It was what we were going to name Connor if he was a girl. We tossed around other girl names, but still really liked Isla.
