17 Weeks

Little nugget is now the size of an onion, is about 5 inches and almost 6 oz.  I'm happy to report that I am getting more of an appetite--I can eat beef again, but chicken still grosses me out.  Ironically I've been more nauseous this week than the past few, but I've still been able to eat more than just bagels.  (YAY!)

The good news:  My 16 week appointment went great; baby's heartbeat was 150 and we find out the sex April 20th!

The bad news:  My midwife told me I'm probably going to have "a gigantic baby."  I'm sorry, but those word should probably never be uttered to a first time mom. (Or any mom for that matter!) She was basing her conclusion solely off the fact that I told her I was a gigantic baby--9 lbs, and 15 oz (my mother is about 4'11" and about 95 pounds).  So now I have the fear of God in me.  I'm completely freaked out that my lady parts are going to rip from end to end (or I'll have a C-section like my mom had to).

How big were your babies at birth?  Did you weigh about the same when you were born?

  1. I would feel the exact same way. Couldn't she have just said "healthy"?! :) ~ Kibos

  2. Was that woman in the prescription drugs? Why on earth would she say that? Commence passing out NOW!

  3. I was 8lb 12oz, Andy was 8lb 13oz and Taylor was 8lb 15oz. All in the same ballpark.

I delivered naturally with no medication and only had minor tears which required a few stitches.

    You can do it!!

  4. I weighed 9 lbs 2 oz. My son weighed 8 lbs 3 oz, & my daughter weighed 11 lbs 1 oz. I delivered both naturally; I had a 1st degree tear with my son and I was ripped to shreds with my daughter.

  5. I was 10lb 3oz, my brother was 10lb 9oz and my sister was...11lb 1oz!! So...I wonder what MY midwife will have to say (when the time comes)! :)

  6. I was 8lbs 10oz, Matt was 7lbs 6oz, and our little Jack was 10lbs 2oz! He was too big and wouldn't come all the way down, so I had a c-section. We knew he was going to be big based on all my ultrasounds, so I mentally prepared myself for the fact that a c-section may be necessary in the end. Big babies are fun though and they don't feel so breakable as newborns. :)

  7. Oh goodness. Dont stress girl. I've heard sooooo many horror stories that have been told to people. Dont even stress. My doctor said that there is NO WAY to really tell, predict or know how big the baby will be. You'll be fine! Also, don't get talked into a C-section!!

  10. Talk about things nurses should not say...
Two weeks before Brendan was born, she said while looking at an ultrasound that he had the biggest cheeks...
Do you know I had nightmares for the next two weeks that his cheeks were abnormally big....like caricature drawings and his lips could barely be seen!!! He was born with just normally chubby cheeks! Whew!!

  11. I was 9 lbs 15 1/2 oz when I was born - my dad called me Spud for years since I weighed about as much as a 10 lb sack of spuds.

My son was 10 lbs 1 oz, which I delivered as naturally as possible {I had a dose of Fentanyl} with minor tearing.

  13. Your mom is a MINIATURE person! I honestly think you'll be fine. Remember what Jean said. THINK POSITIVE!!!! Also, If Dan's mom could pop out five babies at 10 pounds each (she's about 5'4") then I think you will be ok! You're about the size my mom used to be and she birthed 4 kids from 8 - 10 pounds each and she was fine, too. YOU'RE GONNA DO GREAT!!!
