What relationship does your spouse and/or children have to your ministry?
According to scripture, my wife is my ministry. I believe that too many Christian men involved in “church” ministry easily forget this fact. My wife is my spiritual accountability and sounding board for all of my theological dilemmas and my personal exhorter. However, on a more practical note, as far as my wife's involvement in ministry goes; this has all yet to be determined. Before being married my wife was a professional woman who never had the aspirations that so many girls do to one day be a “Pastor's wife” with all the responsibility and ceremony that goes with the job title. My wife has a fiery conviction that makes her an evangelist wherever she goes, she is a fabulous hostess and loves to throw parties and entertain audiences. In my mind she would fulfill all the roles and responsibilities wonderfully of a “pastors wife.” However, this would never be a role that I would assume for her nor allow a church body or women's ministry team to expect from her. She is my wife and my best friend. She is the wife of a pastor. If she so chooses to be a “pastor's wife,” than that would be her choice.
I love how he answers this question.
He's going to be an incredible pastor.

*swoon*
ReplyDeleteHow meaningful my friend!
I've thought quite a bit lately about what being a "coach's wife" may entail.
Wow. What a guy! This was such a beautiful and eloquent answer. The love that you both have for each other is phenomenal. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteI most definitely have an(unfairly)preconceived idea in my head about the title and term "pastor's wife" and the expectations of someone in that role. I love hearing this fresh, modern, and egalitarian response from your husband. You are right to be very proud of him!
Kerry - word!
ReplyDeleteWhen I think pastor's wife I think of someone I can talk to as an alternative to my pastor about spiritual things. Growing up in the church, I have grown up with the church's "certain expectations" of a pastor's wife. At the local seminary there is actually a whole course you can take on being a pastor's wife. I don't expect Bible studies or her to be the head of the welcome wagon. But a good listening ear and a great woman of God. I think you already have that covered.
You are going to make a great "pastor's wife" whatever that entails. I think this topic is worth exploring Ruthy.

ReplyDeleteI'd hire him!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is amazing with the way he expresses himself. It makes me sooo happy! :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother was the wife of a pastor for so many years, until she became a pastor herself some years back. I have to say that she had some interesting times but not as interesting as me and my sistas did! Hehehe. Your kids are going to have a blast, lol.
That was really refreshing to read.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are certainly lucky to have each other :)
What a fantastic answer. I'm with cupcake - HIRED!
ReplyDeleteHello from another "wife of a pastor." ;)
ReplyDeleteYou two are going to make a difference...wherever you go.

@stacy Marie--coaches wife huh--I definitely see a lot of similarities between a pastor and a coach--and their wives
ReplyDelete@Salt--he is great with words...which is why he makes such an awesome preacher!
@Kerry--thanks for your honesty...I really hope to change that perception.
@Jesselyn--thanks for your kind words!
@acupcakewedding--lemme know if you know someone! :)
@Faith--I bet you have some stories!
Wonderful words, you have a great husband there.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I had to think about because my husband is also called to minister. How could I be a pastor's wife? I just know that if God places you in that position, He's already taken care of that journey for you, you just have to walk in it.
He's placed you with your husband for a reason. I'm sure you'll make a great 'pastor's wife.'
Good for you getting that excitement up! I'd say it's always the case that a pastor can't be truly great without a great wife. I hope God is blessing you both wherever He leads you.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the wife of a pastor, but the daughter of the wife of a minister. It's not always easy, but I'm sure you'll both find a way through with such strong faith.
ReplyDeleteThe other connection- I met my husband online 8 years ago & we have a beautiful little 4 year old daughter.
Love to you both.
Jx
Gob bless you both....
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome response. Visiting from SITS... hope you have a wonderful SITS day. Looking forward to reading more of your blog. It's always fun to discover blogs by other believers.
ReplyDeleteI feel like your hubby will be one of those pastors who makes everyone feel comfortable and doesn't preach AT you!! Churches need more pastors like that!
ReplyDeleteNot only a perfect response, it shows how well he knows you. He has a good head on his shoulder! Love e-meeting your blog via SITS!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're right: he answered that question perfectly! :-) I always wonder about the expectations us congregants have on the Pastor's wife... This puts me in check! LOL!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS! Hope your SITS day is fantastic!
There is nothing more wonderful than a spouse who knows your giftings and encourages them to bloom riotously! What a beautiful, powerful testimony for both of you!
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely response. Obviously, he has his priorities straight. You are very blessed!
ReplyDeleteFor a SITS, 30 day to a better blog, they wanted us to explore other blogs in our niche. Your niche isn't the same as mine since mine is parenting, but we share the faith. Thanks for sharing your life. We too make decisions some people think are crazy...like skipping the suburbs and living in the city all the co-workers tell you to avoid.
